Episcopal city (since the 4th century) and ducal city (the de Crussol d’Uzès family has lived in the castle for 900 years, and Antoine de Crussol received the prerogatives of Duke and First Peer of France in 1632), Protestant stronghold, home of the Reformation and Huguenot resistance.
Uzès is an exceptionally beautiful town. Thanks to its architectural quality, the old town was one of the first to be classified as a protected area by André Malraux.
